Historically people have placed the blame for their eczema on things they have eaten. Even today you can still hear people say things like, ‘Darn it, I knew I shouldn’t have eaten those chips! Now I’m breaking out again!’, or ‘That bag of peanuts I ate last night broke out all over my body this morning!’. Scientists find more and more proof every day that diet plays only a very small role in causing eczema, and instead of directly causing the rashes and oozing associated with the condition, foods only cause chain reactions in the body systems that can result in the problem.

Proper diet is responsible for overall health. Eating the right foods will help you have healthier skin. By adding more salads, dried fruits, nuts, and juices to your diet, you are also adding vitamins which play a vital role in skin health. Research has shown that with a diet high in Vitamin A, Vitamin B Complex, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, L-Carotene, and Zinc, you’ll find your eczema problem fading away.

On the other hand, it is important that you eliminate caffeine, eggs, nuts, and corn products from your diet. Caffeine is notorious for increasing the stress hormones in your body. Higher levels of stress will cause can trigger break-outs. Foods which contain a lot of caffeine and need to be avoided include tea, coffee, chocolate, and soda. Yeah, that’s right — all the good stuff!

Allergies to eggs, nuts, and corn can trigger eczema outbreaks. Start by reading the packaging on processed foods, and you’ll find that a myriad of products available today are filled with nut and corn products, especially corn. Corn comes disguised in many ways, such as high fructose corn syrup and corn by-products. If you happen to be allergic to these foods, they can start a chain of reactions in your body which can ultimately lead to eczema.

Red meat and dairy products are hard to digest. Recent research has shown that when the body works harder at digesting animal protein, waste products aren’t processed as efficiently. Instead, the wastes will end up staying in the body for longer periods of time where they can block pores and cause more break-outs.

As you can see, none of the foods in themselves cause eczema. Have yourself tested to see if you’re allergic to any foods. Those are the ones you need to avoid. There are foods that boost the good processes in the body while other foods can cause a domino effect through the body systems and come down to the bottom line of more break-outs. In fact, such diverse parts of your life as the amount of exercise, cosmetic usage, hormones, hygiene, and stress all play just as much a part in causing eczema outbreaks as food does.
